Just sharing some pic's from a recent holiday. This January, the family and I went to stay in Lakes Entrance. We travelled around a lot between there, Buchan, Bairnsdale and Paynesville. We were also going to see the hot springs at Metung, but I turned around because:
a) We had no swimming gear, and
b) The whole area is so built up and commercial looking there was no way I was going to have anything like the wonderful experience I remember so vividly from when I was 9 years old.
But that sums up almost everything around the Lakes. Everything has changed so much and is so developed. Affluent is the best word. A real estate agent's dream market is a good description. Buying there now might be like buying at the Gold Coast in the 1980's or something.
Apart form no chance for a swim, we lacked fishing tackle. Having a casual look over the Mitchell River in Bairnsdale where my father used to take me fishing, I noticed two enormous fish swimming slowly around near the water surface. I think they might have been mullet, but I don't know. They were both big enough to make a good meal.
Anyhow here are some photos. Some of these are taken at the Mitchell River silt jetty, which is really worth a visit, via Eagle Point. Also, I recommend a restaurant in Lakes Entrance called Sea Shanty. Get the fish and chips. It's the mother lode.
